Larry Miller is an American artist who participated in the Fluxus movement, and he used DNA and genetic technology as a new artistic medium. His works like Revivified Self-Portrait No.3 – 20th-Century Romantic (1966/1999) and Revivified Self-Portrait No.4 – Anxiety (1971/1999) featured photographic portraits of the artist as a young man, DNA specimens, and tableaux re-presenting the scenes recorded in the original photograph. This picture taken by Manfred Leve shows Miller posing in front of his self-portrait. As well as being an artist himself, Miller also played different roles: a producer re-staging Fluxus events, an organizer of art historical exhibition on Fluxus, and a researcher collecting and classifying materials about the history of Fluxus. A video recording of his extensive interview with George Maciunas made just before Maciunas’ death in 1978, is considered crucial for Fluxus history, and there are also his video projects on Carolee Schneemann, Dick Higgins and Alison Knowles.
