Untitled
Date/ 1988
Artist(Credit Line)/ Nam June Paik
Classification/ Painting
Dimensions / 22x30cm
Medium / Acrylic color, canvas
In this work, Nam June Paik did not draw a rectangular outline of television per se, but four short lines seem to represent the eyes, nose and mouth, which is reminiscent of his typical personified TV set. Below one of the eyes and the mouth are three dots forming a vertical line respectively, which might be intended to convey certain emotional expression. The background is painted thick in black, and what is seen through the black layers are strokes of a brush dipped in different colors at once.
