Nam June Paik and Charlotte Moorman came to Australia by the invitation of John Calder Public Art Project in March 1976, and during their stay in Sydney, Moorman performed Sky Kiss. It took place around the Sydney Opera House on 11 April 1976. Held by eighteen colorful balloons, Moorman was able to float over, if not high up, for an hour or so playing the cello. She put on a headdress with two pointed peaks that looked like the roofs of the Opera House, and a white satin cape with feathered trim. After this performance, Paik and Moorman headed off to the Solomon Islands where they filmed Guadalcanal Requiem. The photograph is the Linz performance of Sky Kiss where many volunteers lifted Moorman off the ground in the vicinity of the River Danube, by employing an array of helium-filled tubes.
