Nahyun Hwang and David Eugin Moon, co-founding partners of the practice N H D M (www.nhdm.net) , have been awarded an Honor Award in the 2012 AIANY Design Awards and a "Design Distinction" in the environments category in I.D. Magazine’s 2011 Annual Design Review for their Nam June Paik Library. Since 1954, I.D.’s prestigious annual showcase has chronicled the evolution of design and highlighted its impact on our material and visual culture. Each year, the featured work is chosen by a jury of leading practitioners. AIA New York’s annual Design Awards Program, now in its 31st year, recognizes outstanding architectural design and honors the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence. Hwang’s and Moon’s project will be featured in the Design Awards Exhibition at the Center for Architecture in New York City from April 19-May 31, 2012.
Located in the Nam June Paik Art Center, in Yong-In, South Korea, the library houses and circulates the Center’s Nam June Paik Archives Collection, Nam June Paik Video Archives, and rare Fluxus Footage Collection, as well as the user generated materials. The design and construction of the library was made possible by City of YongIn and Gyeonggi Province Government’s Small Library Fund.
